The missing cross.

Dear Saints,

I’m writing this posting today in an effort to expand on my last prophetic word given to the Body of Christ regarding heart fellowship with the world.  In that prophetic word, our heavenly Father warns us of last day doctrines which teach us that we are only to rest in the finished works of Jesus and we have no responsible part in our salvation from sin and the sinful flesh.

Although it is true that we are to rest in the finished works of Jesus, completed by His death and resurrection (the place called “Done”), we appropriate His finished works in our lives as we take up our cross and follow (obey) Him always trusting and resting in Him and His commands to us (both in scripture and spoken personally to us by His still small voice).

To better illustrate my point, I wish to share an event in my life which happened a few years ago, wherein; the Lord used the event to teach me something important about our resting in the finished works of Jesus, the place called “Done”.

A few years ago when I still lived in the Dallas area; a dear sister in Christ invited me to join her in attending a home-based bible study.  The bible study was under the umbrella of a well-known ministry, and even though I had never followed this particular ministry, I thought the ministry to teach true doctrine.  So, I decided to at least check out the bible study and join my sister in Christ.

After attending my first session, I was excited about the bible study because its main focus was on learning to rest in the finished works of Jesus and entering into the kingdom of God.  The study leader presented very good teachings based on this doctrine and the people there were very loving.  Therefore, I enjoyed the studies and fellowship and decided to continue attending.

Howbeit, after a while, I had a check in my spirit about the bible studies, although, I couldn’t put my finger on anything that was off.  The leader was teaching truth supported by scripture and I couldn’t point out anything that was in error regarding her teachings.  So, I began to seek the Lord for clarification on the matter.

Shortly thereafter, a proclaimed prophet under the ministry scheduled a visit to one of our bible studies.  Therefore, I made sure that I attended so I could listen to what this man taught in hopes of discovering any possible error to confirm the check in my spirit.

However, consistent with the leader, this man had a great teaching about resting in the finished works of Jesus and entering into the kingdom of God, yet, I couldn’t find any error in his teaching.

Howbeit, maybe a week after this man visited the bible study; he mysteriously fell ill and died within a very short time thereafter, possibly within a day or two.  As a result, the bible study leader sent out an email to the group informing us of the tragic death and stated that she believed that the man (in his illness) caught a glimpse of heaven and didn’t want to stay here on earth any longer, so the Lord took him home.

Although that sounded nice, I felt in my spirit that that was not the case.  So, I enquired of the Lord regarding this man’s mysterious sudden death, and the Lord answered me with this scripture: “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed”. Galatians 1:8.

After the Lord gave me this scripture regarding the man’s death, I then knew for sure that something was wrong with the bible study teachings, yet, I still couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it was.  I compared the teachings with scripture and I couldn’t find any of it to be in error.  However, after a time in seeking the Lord on the matter, He lovingly showed me what it was.  It wasn’t so much what was being taught, but instead, what was NOT being taught.

In other words, it is true that we are to labor to rest in the finished works of Jesus just as scripture commands (Heb. 4:11 “Let us therefore make haste to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience”.), however, what was NOT being taught about entering into that rest is our taking up our cross and obeying Christ.

Continued obedience to Christ (taking up one’s cross and following Him at all cost to self) is the key to appropriating and abiding in the finished works of Jesus.  “There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” Hebrews 4:9-11.  One CANNOT enter into that rest while still operating in self-will.

Resting in His finished works and our covenant blessings can ONLY be obtained IF we take up our cross to the self-will and obey Him (obey His promptings and witness of His Spirit and His still small voice).  “And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD your God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command you this day, that the LORD your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken unto the voice of the LORD your God.”  Deuteronomy 28:1-2.

Thus, we can only rest in His finished works as we take up our cross to our self-will and obey Him.  Any reliance on the self-will is unbelief, and therefore, one cannot enter into that rest while still in unbelief.  “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.  For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end; while it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.  For some, when they had heard, did provoke: yet not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.  But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?  And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of their unbelief.”  Hebrews 3:12-19.

Like the bible study which I reference, there are many ministries today teaching on our entering into His rest, our covenant blessings and the kingdom of God.  However, this cannot be accomplished by those still living a life unto themselves (following the self-will).  “And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me.  And whosoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.” Matthew 10:38 and Luke 14:27.

We should take note that the old law of keeping the Sabbath was pointing us to our true rest in the finished works of Christ.  “For if Joshua had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains therefore a rest to the people of God.” Hebrews 4:8-9  “If you turn away your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shall honor him, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words: Then shall you delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride upon the heights of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it. For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief”. Isaiah 58:13-14 and Hebrews 4:8-11.

Consequently, we are in the last of the last days in which there will be a remnant of believers who will enter into that rest and His kingdom while still here on earth.  Prophetically speaking, we are in the third day since the death and resurrection of Christ because a thousand years is like a day unto the Lord (2 Peter 3:8), and it has been over two thousand years since the time of Christ and we are now in the remaining “third” thousand years (third day) since the time of Christ, or seven thousand years (seventh “Sabbath” day) since Christ.  “Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he has torn, and he will heal us; he has smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.” Hosea 6:1-3.

Therefore, this is the time that a remnant of believers will actually enter into that rest and live in His sight (His indwelling presence) while still on earth.  We are in exciting days whereas the latter glory of the Lord’s house will be greater than the former.  However, we must be very cautious with the many false teachings that would cause us to slip into error.  We MUST be vigilant in meditating on His word and always on alert so that we don’t let anybody take our crown through vain teachings.  Any doctrine of the gospel of Christ and the kingdom of God that leaves out our own cross to self-will and following (obeying) Christ is a false doctrine even if such a ministry operates in signs and wonders.  “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”  For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.  And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.   Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which you have, that no man take your crown.” (Matt. 24:24, 2 Cor. 11:13-14, Rev. 3:1).

I pray that you each are able to receive this truth of resting in His finished works by taking up our cross, believing, trusting and following (obeying) Him unto the end.  May the Lord bless you all.

As always, I greatly appreciate all those lead of the Lord to give toward my needs.  I always pray the Lord’s abundant blessings to be returned on those who faithfully give toward my needs.  Consequently, I have additional financial needs this month, thus, if anyone is able to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Much love to you all from your brother in Christ,

Kevin B.
